X-Keys
Do your X-keys devices work on Unix/Linux?
Quick Answer:
Unfortunately there is no way to program a USB X-keys device in a Unix/Linux environment.
Our USB devices in Memory Resident Mode or BOOT Mode and our PS/2 devices will work in a Unix/Linux environment.
Further Details:
PS/2 Devices
Our PS/2 Devices will work on any operating system which supports PS/2 keyboards.
You will need to plug a PS/2 keyboard into your X-keys device before you can begin programming it. Once the X-keys device has been programmed you can remove this keyboard, since it is not necessary for the regular operation of your X-keys device.
USB X-keys SE Devices - SPLAT Mode:
Unfortunately none of our programming software will work in a Unix/Linux environment. This means you will be unable to program your X-keys device.
USB X-Keys SE Devices - Memory Resident Mode:
A USB X-keys Device in Memory Resident Mode is recognized by any HID compliant Operating System as being a USB keyboard. This means your X-keys device will work in a Unix/Linux environment, since the OS will simply recognize your X-keys device as a USB Keyboard.
Unfortunately you will be unable to change the programming on your device in the Unix/Linux environment. You will need to program your device on a Windows based machine using our Macro Recorder software, which can be downloaded from the following page on our web site: http://www.piengineering.com/software/macrorecorder.php
Once your device has been programmed on the Windows based machine you can freely move it you your Unix/Linux environment.
